Interview with Canada’s newest Natural Professional Figure competitor:
Aman Takhar

Name: Aman Takhar

Email: Takharanju@hotmail.com

Website: Currently being done

Birthdate: August 11, 1978

Height: 5'5

In-Season Weight: 105lbs

Off-Season Weight: 115lbs

Waist: 26

Hair: Black

Eye colour: Brown

TSC: First off I want to thank Steve Dhillon for informing TSC about you becoming Canada’s newest Natural Professional Figure Competitor. Congratulations. I am going to ask the obvious question, how does it feel to win the figure pro-card this past weekend?

Takhar: It is an amazing feeling and almost doesn’t seem real that I got my Pro Card from my very first competition. I feel like I’m having a really great dream and I am going to wake up any second and will still be practicing my posing for the show!!!

TSC: What is truly amazing about you becoming a professional natural figure competitor is that this was your first time ever competing? What was your goal heading into this competition? Surely, you did not expect a pro-card outcome did you?

Takhar: This was my very first time competing in a figure competition and no I did not think I was going to get my Pro card right off the bat. My goal heading into the competition was to just do my very best and get an idea of what competing in figure was all about as I have always been interested. I have worked pretty hard in a sculpting my figure and thought since this was a natural show. I wanted to just try it out and see if it would be something I would pursue. I think I got the bug....

TSC: No doubt, you have always adhered to a fairly strict health-conscientious lifestyle that is largely responsible for your recent success. What inspired you to take to the stage and officially be apart of the fitness lifestyle/industry? Did anyone in particular say to you-I think you would be an awesome figure competitor?

Takhar: I've always been a gym junkie and have been working out for about 8 years now and really started focusing intently on my workouts for the past four years. I would have people come up to me in the gym and ask if I was competing for a show and, my response would be "No, I just love working out!" And after a few people asked me that and my friend Steve always telling my I should compete...I got thinking,” This is something perhaps I should at least try..."

TSC: How has your training & diet changed from your pre-figure competition to what it is now when you decided to enter the show?

Takhar: My training didn’t change too much. My trainer Ron Partlow had me increase the reps for my exercises-especially the legs. My diet was by far the biggest change and most challenging since I have never followed a diet. I ate pretty much whatever however it was not really junk food. I do love my east Indian food and I really have a sweet tooth. So when I had to give all that up it was hard at first. But without the clean food you just can’t possibly get the results you may want.

TSC: So after this monumental win have you decided yet, what your next move will be in figure and where do you go from here?

Takhar: That’s a tough question to answer right now as all this is very new to me and I’m still trying to soak it all in. The energy and excitement of the INBF show was crazy and that is something I definitely want to experience again sometime soon. I also want to mention how helpful and supportive the organizers were in the INBF show. It truly makes a difference for a new timer. I will continue competing in this federation as it is an all natural show and I love that about it. They have competitions throughout the states and I may be doing another show in August/08 in Florida.

TSC: Is there anyone you would like to recognize or simply give a shout to someone, whether it’s a coach, family member, friend, training partner etc. that has helped you get to this stage at where you are at right now?

Takhar: I want to thank Ron Partlow for his on going support and dedication. He is truly a trainer that listens and wants to see you do well. With the many questions I always had he always had the time and I never felt rushed. His knowledge of the sport is outstanding and being healthy while doing this sport is very important to him as it is to me. I also want to thank Steve for always telling me I could do this and that I should at least give it a shot...and also want to give a big shout out to my supportive parents. I want to especially thank my Dad for believing in me and supporting me.

TSC: I hope you have had a chance of perusing through our site and I am curious of what you think about it? Is there any chance you might become one of TSC’s newest members?

Takhar: I look forward to working with you in the near future and getting involved and learning more about TSC and spreading the word about such a great and knowledgeable website.

TSC: We would certainly love to work with you more closely in the future and become somewhat intertwined with you and your career and hopefully we can grow into the industry together. The TSC supplement division will hopefully be existent in the near future and would love to help cater to your athletic performance as we get to know you better.

Takhar: Thank you for taking the time in getting to know me and I will for sure keep you in the loop in regards to my competitions and look forward to learning and sharing on your website!

TSC: No doubt you have a promising future ahead of you in this sport and we wish you all the best. Thanks for taking part in this interview and we will be closely monitoring your future with great interest. Please keep us in the loop in regards to your schedules so we can share this information with our loyal TSC fans.

I also want to thank God for giving me such a great opportunity and giving me the strength and will power to go HARD!!!

Any other pertinent information you would like to add? Finding a really good trainer is key and was key for me doing well in the INBF competition. I also want to thank Ron Partlow who is better known as "Big Ron" for all his support and just being there for every little question I had...(and there were lots!!!)

A short biography of yourself, history, any relevant information that you want your future fans to know about you! It’s funny how I am such a gym junkie now and love being outdoors. Growing up I was the girl who would always have cramps just so I didn’t have to participate in gym class. I can’t imagine not being active right now. I started hitting the gym when I was at Grant MacEwan and then ventured on to the U of A to get my degree. I worked out but it was never really hard, it was just light, easy non-challenging workouts. When I finished school and got my nursing degree I joined Club Fit and have been a member there for about 6 years and in probably the last four years is when I really started going to the gym religiously. I think the harder you workout, the results appear and it’s a great feeling and it just gives you the drive to continue and do better each time. I never had a trainer all my years of hitting the gym and then started working with Ron Partlow in Nov/08 and that is the first time I actually went on a "diet". You really can workout all you want but if your not eating clean you never really see the true results of what your body is capable of.

"Too bad R.W. will not check out this site again...his loss I suppose. I am somewhat surprised to see this debate take place on TSC, but I am happy to see it and it begs the question, "What is Beauty?" I have briefly mentioned women's pursuit of beauty in my review of the Canadian Nationals BB show. One one hand they have large, ripped (man-like) muscles and yet they have their hair and nails done as if they are going to a wedding. I feel like one of the biggest struggles female bodybuilders endure a balance between muscularity and femininity. I feel for these female athletes that are caught in this dilemma of being scrutinzed not just on their physique but also on their overall look. This seems a bit unfair to the sport as their male counterparts are not likely subjected to this bias. I do not know Aman but I assume this type of sentiment is not unfamiliar to her and will only intensify somewhat the further she delves into the sport. I once showed pictures of Nova Soctia BB and now IFBB pro Cyndi Phillips to my buddies when she was younger on the internet with less muscular development as she looked more "fit" and "tight" and they all thought she was very attractive. Then I showed a more recent pic of her with her body as it is very muscular obviously like a bodybuilder and not as a fitness-type competitior and my same buddies were taken aback and thought she "wrecked" her beautiful body? My point is for a lot of people there is a subconcious level of acceptableness on what is hot and what is too much. It comes down to people's insecurities of the definition of beauty and femininity. Truly each to their own tastes. I cannot tell you how many times I have personally heard women think I am gross as I am too big! But for people that are more knowlegeable about these types of sports the more attractive they find the opposite counterparts as they truly understand the commitment and dedication it takes to achieve that particular look. As my buddies thought Cyndi was gross I thought she was very attractive just like Aman. Bottom line is I know where each side is coming from in the argument but there needs to be more respect for both sides and more of an appreciation of athletes like Aman and should not heavily criticize her personal life. It takes guts to share personal information on a public forum. I definately respect that. "

RE:Interview with Canada’s newest Natural Professional Figure competitor:

"Well. The first thing is obvious Amanpreet has done very well in this sport so far, congratulations on your hard work!! And I look forward to seeing your future successes. As those of us who know about this sport and competed in the past we know what it takes to step on stage and to succeed. A portion of it is esthetics and science and alot of it is what's on the inside: Guts, determination, discipline and a zest for life. Bodybuilding, figure and fitness is generally a wonderful community filled with supportive, energetic, like-minded individuals. No- not everyone is able to hire a personal trainer and afford the diet but most often it's more about the unique individuals who strive to achieve DESPITE their consequences in life. A great Personal Trainer is of the utmost importance- but in life you are on your own and if the spirit isn't there it doesn't matter how much support, time and money you have you will always be that envious person who can only makes themselves feel better by wishing they could do what others do...instead of living it! I find it a bit sad that an individual (who has no obvious interest, education or experience in this sport) would take the time to write such small-minded and slanderous comment. I suggest this person and their "friends at the gym" take some time to look at THEMSLEVES in the mirror and figure out why THEY would deserve a second look? Or more importantly what do they have to offer beyond those looks? Because it's obvious THEY aren't the ones stepping on stage. Cheers and all the best to you Amanpreet..A.G "

"All I can say is this. You obviously some people are jealous for some reason or another...why would a person write in just to criticize is my point. The last posting is an obvious example of this...to anybody who has competed, we all know that it all comes down to our hard work, dedication and sacrafice...no matter who trains us, or whether we can afford to buy chicken breast or not...no excuses.."

RE:Interview with Canada’s newest Natural Professional Figure competitor:

"Hi Mike. I read all these comments and I am not sure why you are so concerned/disturbed. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, which we should accept and respect. I have seen Aman work out in the gym, and as all my friends agree, we have NEVER given Aman a second look. As Kayla puts it “beauty resides in the eye of a beholder”. She is an average looking woman that average looking males will check out. She has tonnes of make-up on in the pictures, I mean why works out with layers of makup? I find nothing extraordinary about her and most of the time if a guy is looking at her is because they are looking at her masculine body. I thoroughly read Aman’s interview. As she states, diet played a major role in sculpting her body, along with hiring a personal trainer. Not all girls are fortunate enough to hire personal trainers and constantly eat food every few hours or have the luxury to buy healthy food high in protein. What Aman did is attainable by any girl or boy as long as they have the time and resources. I disagree that what she has done is a hard job for other girls to achieve. Other girls are not lucky enough to hire a personal trainer. I would give all the credit to her personal trainer. And if she is as attractive as you claim, why is she still single? I am assuming if she is single, she has no children or extra responsibilities. She has all the time to invest in these types of activities. Please don’t degrade other women. I honestly like women with nice athletic body, but only few women look good with bodybuilding. I looked at all her pictures, and her neck/chest area looks disgusting along with all the tanning she has done, which is so bad for your body. I would also like to comment on what you said in these lines, “that the pics were probably taken shortly after competition, at which point she is DEAD TIRED, has not slept well and has very minimal water in her system...have you seen how disgusting and sick a male looks after tanning and losing 12 lbs in the last week for competition...it's not attractive at all..and it is not a healthy state to be in. Ask Paul Dillet or anybody who has cramped up or almost died on stage. Which is the nature of being a professional” This girl could have seriously damaged her body with minimal water in her system. If body building is that dangerous that it can result in death, why not find other activities to engage in, such as swimming, running etc? Why not encourage women to engage in healthy activities? You are welcome to fire a response to my comments, but unfortunately I won’t be checking this site again, so try not to waste your precious time Mike. "

RE:Interview with Canada’s newest Natural Professional Figure competitor:

"It surprises me that so many people on this site probably claim that they know about bodybuilding and strength training have not show it through their postings...besides the fact that Aman gets looks from guys everywhere she goes (ask the guys at Club Fit), what everybody fails to realize is that competition weight is not "walking around weight" Bodybuilders, fighters and boxers know this. Even though she looks fantastic in these pics, what some claim is a lack of "womanliness" is most likely due to the fact that the pics were probably taken shortly after competition, at which point she is DEAD TIRED, has not slept well and has very minimal water in her system...have you seen how disgusting and sick a male looks after tanning and losing 12 lbs in the last week for competition...it's not attractive at all..and it is not a healthy state to be in. Ask Paul Dillet or anybody who has cramped up or almost died on stage. Which is the nature of being a professional. You put your body in dangerous situations. Lets tell it like it is, this sport is dominated by steroid use. Any person who knows ANYTHING About this sport will tell you that. I still respect it though because that is only a part of it. There are months of hard work and suffering that go along with it. That being said, why the heck do we criticize people who give it their all to do it drug free? Keep in mind that very qualified judges felt that she had the right combination of physique and looks to win the competition and her pro card. Lets keep it positive and give credit where it is due. The nature of working out is based on self-critisicm. That is why there are mirrors everywhere in the gym. We work our asses of to try to better ourselves for no reason but so that we can feel that we bettered ourselves. Why try to critique somebody who did it better than anybody and was recognized for it."

"Lets put an end to this Chris debate. I think the problem with men like Chris is that they only find women attractive if they have big boobs or curves. Aman on the other hand is not curvy or has boobs and is very athletic looking which men like Chris find unattractive. I think Aman looks very cute in the pictures and has worked really hard to achieve this. I honestly don’t think she is gorgeous looking but she has her charm.
